Regardless of how obvious it is, what you did accounts as RDM - Killing on suspicion, as KOSing off traps is not valid.

The traps can be activated from quite a distance, so there is no 100% way to know who activated it, only in very rare occasions (for example, if a trap is activated in the Nether whilst there is only 2 people there).
