In this case a punishment would most likely be a speaking to, which if a staff member handles a situation incorrectly is needed to ensure they know how to handle that situation in the future. Also what he said is hardly childish, if staff members are making mistakes and it is a common one then it does need to be brought to the attention of the higher ups so it can be addressed.
