I discussed it with EMP and although we're unsure (so I will speak to Chute before responding) it's presumably the other way around. The bug isn't that the thermals explode when you get fall damage, the bug is that the thermals don't explode when you receive any other damage.

We'll have to double check that obviously, so I'll come back to this request later today.

(Speaking when thermals are in a person) I believe if you shoot a thermal on a person the don't blow up unless you die, So I don't see why a thermal on you explodes when you take fall damage
