Your staff powers are there to help users. It doesn't even matter if this was a fake message or a real one - don't send messages as a staff member that are meant as a "joke" but that could be interpreted as the real deal. For example, you messaging Owl something along the lines of "Fuck you" as a joke, knowing you two are friends and he won't mind, is fine. But you sent a message to a random user that wasn't "in" on this joke, which can only cause confusion and which will only reflect badly on you.
