I have recently put time into creating a Murder server for ZARP. Murder is a gamemode in which there is a killer with a knife and everyone else is a "Bystander". One of these Bystanders is given a gun, and the Bystanders must attempt to track down who the killer is amongst them, survive, and kill them, whilst the Murderer must try to kill all of the Bystanders using their knife. When the Bystander with the gun shoots, it is a one shot kill, but if they shoot another Bystander, they will drop their gun, be unable to pick it up for a short time, and have a slowness effect on them. Any other Bystander is able to pick up the gun, but the Murderer is not. Furthermore, if the Murderer does not kill for a while, they will begin to give off a particle effect, letting Bystanders know who they are. The Murderer is able to kill by throwing their knife or by using it normally as a melee weapon, and Bystanders cannot pick it up. If the Murderer throws the knife, it gives off a trail, alerting Bystanders of where the knife came from.
Obviously everyone in the community needs an outlet for their murderous intent (especially Chute and TheXnator), and we believe that this gamemode will fit very nicely into the community, and it is a very popular within GMod itself.
On the server, we will use the taunts system very similar to the one on Prophunt. Murder is a gamemode which tends to have a taunts system in it, and having this system alongside the Web Taunts system used on Prophunt would be a very nice and unique addon for the server.
Taunts will only be useable by the user who is the Murderer, as that will add a challenge aspect for the Murderer to be able to try to drop in little hints of who they are, whilst also having a little bit of fun with the Web Taunts (if they are VIP). We all know how much everyone loves the Web Taunts system on Prophunt.
Similar to the other Pointshop servers, we will include the levelling system on the Murder server. The way that this system will work is that you can unlock different skins / models for you knife when you are a murderer based on your level.
Level names will be included on the Scoreboard, and within the F1 menu, users will be able to select which of the unlocked skins they wish to use, similar to the crowbar skins on Deathrun, or the knife skins on Bhop and Surf.
We will also be including the ZARP Pointshop on the server, to allow users to have a nice bit of customisation for themselves in terms of playermodels, auras and the other cosmetic features of the Pointshop.
Pointshops are common within Murder gamemodes, however some of the top servers either lack a Pointshop altogether, don’t have it as a very noticeable part of the server, or just have a really bad Pointshop. We feel that the ZARP Pointshop will be another nice little thing that will add to what makes the server unique, and add to the things which will make players choose ZARP over other servers.
We will be using the Shout Vote system on the server in order to allow users to vote to change the map. We have spent some time looking over some maps which are popular and fit the gamemode well, and have decided on the following maps to begin with:
md_clue
mc_skylands
mu_ocean_outcrops
mu_forest (Campground)
mu_parking
If you have any other map suggestions, feel free to leave them in a reply to this and we will consider adding them to the map pool.
We will be including the Botdan Jukebox on the server in order to allow players to listen to music whilst they play the gamemode. This is something that is not found on other gamemodes, and has shown to be a popular yet simplistic feature on the other servers where it is implemented, and so we believe it will also fit well on Murder.
Apparently, we need to have rules in a gamemode, and so we will be putting a list of all of the rules for the gamemode here soon.
If you have any feedback on this suggestion, feel free to leave any in a reply to this topic, and we will take into consideration any feedback that we are given. Remember to vote on the poll attached in order to give us an idea on what the community as a whole thinks of the suggestion.
