Me, Nogtog and PZGrens started the push to become staff on Deathrun in order to fix the issues it had and some it still has, the server had no dedicated owner at the time and with no consistent playerbase, it was very likely doing even worse than the Trouble in Terrorist Town Server 2.
After our push to become staff, several players of the already well established ZARP Community started playing on it, since Deathrun is one of the more popular gamemodes on Garry’s Mod. Eventually managing to go from 1 staff member to 10 active staff members in the 1 month we have now been staff. Without the massive help of forum posts created by PZGrens, Myself, Nogtog, MsRevine and the amazing duo of Haytham and Hitman Jerry; It would have not been possible.
Activity and Experience
I have a consistent activity on the server playing on average around 1-3 hours each day in order to be there to handle situations as they come up, help users with any issues they have, or issues other users may be causing.
I am also a Super Administrator on Minecraft, being able to take part in Lead Team duties such as training staff, helping the server in it’s early startup with testing the server, helping out with spreadsheets, etc.
I have served as staff on multiple servers before ZARP, including hosting and creating my own community on both Trouble in Terrorist Town and Murder, which have gotten me a lot of experience in how to run a server, manage a staff team, how to read very basic code, and the entire system of the ULX.
Since the forums are an integral part of the ZARP community, I have been attempting to be as active as possible, responding to each thread which seems interesting to me, or something which might be of concern to me. I have handled one forum report on Deathrun so far. I have also brought up several suggestions in meetings as well as on the forums.
Here is one example of a Forum report:
Here is one example of a Suggestion:
Staff Positions I’ve held on ZARPGaming:
- Minecraft Super Administrator.
- Deathrun Administrator.
- Trouble in Terrorist Town Administrator.
Staff Positions I’ve held on other servers:
- Server Owner of KriZLife Community (Murder and Trouble in Terrorist Town).
- Server Owner of Relaunched newlife networks.
- Community Manager (and Global Moderator on the forums) of Original NewLife.
- Administrator at Hjortefjellet.
Explain a situation as an administrator you encountered that was an obstacle that required the help of a lead team member but you had to work around it when no lead team member was available:
In the cases where a user is using an alt account, we have to check with a Community Manager since there is no LT member currently on the staff team.
Explain how you would review and handle an abuse report against another staff member:
I would first read or talk to whoever is alleging abuse. I would follow by contacting the staff member accused, asking if what the user alleged is true. If I get conflicting versions, I would try to make them communicate with each other if there is something the one remembers, but the other doesn’t; which would likely fill in an important piece of evidence.
If the user has video evidence, other evidence or the staff member confesses, I would then bring the staff members actions up in the Lead Team meeting if the actions that were taken demands so, and we would discuss what sanctions to bring against the staff member.
Explain in detail how you would act in the following situation:
A staff member bans a user for an excessive amount of time, how do you approach the staff member to ensure that everyone is treated fairly?
I would first ask the user if they believed they banned the user for a fair amount, consider if what they did was the first time and was never given another verbal warning or an outright Awarn warning. If we both believe it is, then I would either ask the staff member to reban them with a lower amount of time, or just unban them and give them a Awarn warning.
Explain in detail how you would act in the following situation:
A staff member is dealing with a user but is struggling to do so in an appropriate manner. How would you resolve the situation?
I would ask the staff member to deal with the user in a more appropriate manner, and if the staff member doesn’t completely know what to do, I could of course invite myself to join in on the conversation or ask the staff member to add me to the report chat. Asking the staff member to join Discord or Teamspeak in order to guide them through it is also a likely thing I might do.
Explain in detail how you would act in the following situation:
A staff member accuses another staff member of breaking rules, how would you help resolve the situation?
First of all, I would ask the parties to calm down, if I am present. If this is something the staff member can prove, I would talk to the other staff member and ask why they did what they did, and if they broke the rules, I would talk to them about not doing it again, then either hand them a verbal warning or give them an official warning if it is a serious offense. If it was a serious offense, I would then bring it up in the LT meeting or call an emergency LT meeting in order to discuss what we should do with the staff member and the situation they have caused.
Explain in detail how you would act in the following situation:
A staff member acts in a disrespectful manner towards another staff member and or sparks an argument within the staff team. How do you resolve the situation?
I will obviously ask the staff members to calm down, as disrespecting each other never resolves a situation, if they continue to disrespect each other outside of official channels, I would have to take it up with the rest of the Lead Team.
Explain in detail how you would act in the following situation:
You spot a staff member breaking rules to the point of harming other users, how do you approach the staff member?
I would ask the staff member to stop what they are doing and refer them to the staff ethos, as they should not be harming users in any way possible. If this is a serious offense I would call up an emergency LT meeting. If they continue to harm users on the server, I would ask for permission to demote them on the spot.
