I am once again asking for your philosophy insight 2 years 9 months ago #1376605

Do you think that colour is the same for everyone (is my red your orange?)
For people who know the terms it’s basically direct realism vs anti-realism k thanks

I think colour is the same for everyone(besides those who suffer from colour blindness) due to the fact that colour combinations exist and are of usual agreement that they look good or bad.
For example, most people think gold and black look great together. If everyones gold looked different, there wouldnt be much agreement.
Another example is the combination of blue and yellow. Most people would say its a good combination, but if everyone saw blue/yellow differently, it would be more widely disagreed and perhaps even unreadable, if blue text was on a yellow background and vice versa.

yeah that's a strong argument against it, but then again I think that we base colours off of what we have observed and associated them with, the most notable being red symbolising blood. And also when we "like" colour combinations I don't think its the case of us liking a specific contrast of colours just for it being a colour, it may be some ingrained natural instinct which would explain most people liking them, like us associating colours with particular foods or plants we can eat or smt.

It's mostly the same color for most people. But just because you make orange a little lighter doesn't mean it's now yellow, there's also a grey zone to account for when it's not really certain of it's orange or yellow. Obviously there's going to be some variance with - but most can agree that below is of orange (You'll have outcasts with any topic so consensus is the only thing that matters).

Also, blue is the color of the dress

The colours that are very similar look the same for me. Orange and yellow, red and brown and purple and blue

How do you know that the feedback your visual receptors are receiving is the truth and if group feedback is not also muddled like Chinese whispers?

we don't, I personally don't think things like colour, smell, taste are actual properties of matter, they are just random things developed in evolution that help us hunt better, meaning its all interpreted in our head, which explains our ability to have such vivid dreams / hallucinations.

This philosophical question has been debated a lot. Just do a simple google search and put 'Reddit' in that search, you will then receive a bunch of answers.
