I think it wouldn't be a viable way to run a society. If hypothetically no one had to work anymore and all the jobs were done by robots people will have a lot more free time. More free time will lead to more kids and to a rise in the population.
And as we have seen with for example communism there is a huge chance that it will go wrong because people want more power and control. Even when there was communism the rich still had a lot more influence than the poorer people.
