Ophiocordyceps (the virus which wipes out 60% of humanity in The Last of Us) is actually real fungi found in ants, which in essence takes over the Ants body, takes over the Ants brain and compels the Ant to move to a location that is more inhabitable for the parasitic host, which then leads the Ant to bite down also down as the "death bite", killing the Ant entirely and causing the Ant to grow spores out of its body that will later infect more Ants. This is also known as the "Zombie Ant Fungus"

Yeah it's super interesting, really eerie as well. Not sure if you've seen footage of it but I recommend watching it.
