In a way, communism is just an extreme form of socialism. The two philosophies do have some clear differences though like communism is a political system, while socialism is more of an economic system that can exist under different political systems. :v

Real talk for a second. Socialism and communism are actually nothing alike. The only similarity they have is that they are left-winged ideals. The idea that socialism and communism are actually really similar is false, although people online often pretend that it is.

It's not really as simple as that, the various forms of communism and socialism alongside the various political spectrum measures (political compass, political triangle etc etc) mean that you cannot just say that they are nothing alike due to the complexity of making such a comparison.There are many similarities with some forms of communism being almost identical to some forms of socialism and then the opposite effect where some would share no similarities with the other. Comparing them based on "left and right" is pointless, one must also take into account their levels of authoritarianism and libertarianism, some would say fascism and communism are right next to each other based on Stalin's communism and Hitler's fascism and those who argue that Hitler was completely different from Stalin would struggle to respond to the question of why his party was a "National Socialist" party.

All I'm really saying is comparing ideologies is not as simple as "they are both on the left" or "they are both authoritarian".
