Bro you stupid. The price has been fluctuating from $10k to $20k quite often - due to the weak-handed investors and the ever increasing media hype. Whether there are better coins or not is another discussion.
Just in Feb-Sep, the price was around ~$1000 and went up highest to ~$5000.
Higher prices: Mid november - $8000, early December - $11000, mid December - $18000.
If it was a few months earlier, a market recovery would be certain, but I don't invest directly into BTC anymore because of the volatility provided by the media.
useless rant:
The price in drops signal to me a nice queue for "buy low, sell high" - which NO investors realize early on and end up selling instantly when the price drops and they get scared. Another kink with investing in alt coins is that they are all somewhat tethered to a BTC trade and that's why you see some major price changes in the negative mostly, which causes more people to sell and in turn more money for smart investors.
Bitcoin will in fact, 99.9% and higher chances for it to go up again. The transaction fees along with slow network speeds, security, and other issues are becoming to be unfeasible which could make a new coin reign as "king".
Currently I'm investing in EOS (mainly), IOTA and ETH (have not invested yet but plan to). DOGE for fun too, cause why not. The qualities I see in these coins appeal to what Bitcoin wasn't able to optimize to as I previously mentioned.
Sorry about the disorganized rant but I'm bored, lol. /rant
