TOPIC: Reworking the map Rockford!

Reworking the map Rockford! 9 years 6 months ago #257392

Hello guys. I have decided, whenever I get my hammer editor to work with my computer, to start reworking Rockford.
Hopefully when I am done I can submit it to the owners who can then decide whether or not to use it.

My plan is to fix the bugs and issues there are currently on the map and add more buildings etc.

What I want from you guys is to post suggestions and bugs that you know of.
If you want to keep the bugs out of knowledge of other players then add me on Steam here

I will post progress in this thread as the work goes along.

*Update 1, 12/01-2016, 02:04*
Got Hammer Editor working, now the work begins.

*Update 2, 12/01-2016, 12:21*
So far fixed a few visual bugs, and put up some more invisible walls to stop players leaving the map.
Currently waiting for Hammer to progress that I have ungrouped the whole map so I can make edits easier.
(If you guys have never used hammer before, then just know that it crashes like 90% of the time when making big edits)

*Update 3, 13/01-2016, 22:43*
Work is progressing! Decided to spent most of the time today fixing up current errors before I start making anything else that is completely new. That way I have it all sectioned off!

Things that I have already got a plan for:
-Fixing various bugs that lets people easily "escape the map" this will also fix people being teleported under the map when they get returned after F1's.
-Visual bugs and errors, I will also create better "map borders"
-Parting the city into districts better, for helping with NLR clarity.
-Create a more suitable mining area.
-Add some more buildings on the outskirts of the map and making some of the buildings in the city into buildings you can enter.

From looking at the map for a few minutes, I can definitely see where I can be optimised to improve framerate. However that will be some of the last I will do

Thank you No One, I didn't realise how badly made this map was.. Like, there are honestly way more ways to get out of the map than I previously realised.

Make more Apartments useable and more like shacks and outside places, maybe a harbour near the water on farside of map.

Want to see why players can easily fall through the map?
Well wait no longer, I provide screenshots:

Piece of the road from above

Same piece of road from a view under the map to see how thick it was

All the blank space between this piece of road with the Nodraw texture and the other Nodraw texture is just empty space and when players get TP'ed back they sometimes get "stuck" a little bit in the map and to fix that the game either pushes them up and down, with how thin this is it's understandable why players are even able to be pushed down and get stuck under the map.

You may remember this:

This building

This room

The author of the map simply just put a "block" there, basically the walls inside the room did not exist and beyond the door was just a block, with the nodraw texture on the inside, explaining why you couldn't enter.

That is now fixed, I am going to add a few extra rooms in there as well.

Making this as a new reply to see if I can get some answers:
I am looking for help with this error in Hammer Editor:

I can not seem to compile the map due to too many t-junction errors. I have searched around trying to find solutions but nothing has helped. I have even gone over the map multiple times to try and reduce the t-junctions.

It has been awhile since I last was making maps, so maybe it's just my memory stopping me from being able to do it.

Error log for those interested:

If you get any errors like when i was using hammer use this website:

BSP error checker

Paste the log into the "search for errors" box check the "This is a bsp file" box and press the "Check log" button

Instead of posting on the forums :) but EMP is elite map making hax0r.
