I'd say log all damage reguardless of gang members, but store it in the file as 2 player names and/or steam id and the number of damage delt and when displaying the damage log use something like print(+player1+ "has damaged" + player2 + "with" + damage + "damage") So it uses less storage.
I know print is used for displaying something in the IDE'S output log but it's just something to check if it works
Idea2:
if a player does constant damage to another player make the currentdamage variable store all the damage as one number. Such as if a SAS member was to shoot someone with their full auto weapon it would only store the damage as 67 or something along the lines of it
And also if someone was instanty killed by the nuke etc such as damage exeeding 100hp or 100% of their current hp then it wouldn't log the damage
