Server Name: SSRP
Suggestion Title: Stricter on Hacking
How would it benefit the server:
Well first I think we need to look at this issue with a detailed analysis on how things currently work, are they effective, if not, why not, and where to go from there.
Chances are if you've been gaming a while you've probably been tempted to hack or have hacked. While you hack, depending on what game and which way it's being used, it's very fun to do but it's selfish fun. It's fun at the expense of cheating everyone else out of a good time. There is no game to other players at this point, there is no challenge, if a player can use a program and beat you easily at your expense for a few laughs or personal advantage.
Let's tighten our scopes and look at Garry's Mod, on random servers hacking can be pretty funny, it's very much looked down upon though. Here at ZARP especially SSRP, we offer a lot of custom content and incentive to be and play at your best performance in raids, basing, trading, etc. We have over 2,000 unique players joining each day across Servers 1, 2, and 3.
With our current policy, we give players a kick for hacking and if they do it again this is a permanent ban. A good amount of these players don't cheat again, and after getting kicked go on to the next server and repeat the process. This leaves our players having a bad experience, and the offenders leaving with a fun night on their hands. On the other hand, we do have a good amount of players who use these hacks to hide them, using hacks that bypass our anti-cheat and are completely malicious with them.
Unfortunately, these players often do it again somewhere down the line, and I'm sure if you think back you can think of a few examples of players you may remember doing what I've detailed here. All in all, there are two types of hackers I've detailed here. What do they have in common? They negatively affect players experience, and often, don't feel remorse for their actions even though they might say they do.
We need to change this policy to a ban when caught cheating. This gives the player the opportunity to make a heart-felt apology that shows all of us that they're truly sorry for their actions. This weeds out the players coming on blatantly doing this for a laugh as they most likely won't make an appeal and they're kept out from causing trouble until they want to be a productive member in the community, and it also keeps those players that feel remorse for their actions and want to play again by giving them an honest chance to appeal their ban in front of the entire community being able to give their opinion.
I think at the end of the day this will be a logical, productive, and more effective way of dealing with cheaters and will bring us a step closer to bringing a more honest and less cheated experience to our players.
