TOPIC: [Forum] Add sub-sections for applications

[Forum] Add sub-sections for applications 7 years 6 months ago #427374

Server Name: N/A - applies to all servers

Suggestion Title: Create sub-sections in the Server Applications section for each respective server; TTT, SSRP, Deathrun and B-Hop.

How would it benefit the server: I believe it would make application voting processes smoother for staff meetings. It may also make it easier for applicants and staff to find applications - sometimes applications are missed, having their own reserved section allows handling to be easier and prevents staff from having to filter through applications for other servers to find the right ones.

Potential Issues/Exploits: Would require some forum work, potential to confuse new forum users (posting in the wrong section etc). No possible exploits.

Additional notes: Ideally the lead team for the respective server would be able to moderate the appropriate section, this can be discussed later on however.

I've experienced cases where applications were reviewed later or missed out completely, because it was jammed between clusters of applications for other servers. It would make things easier in that sort of sense, if you get me?

If one lead team member does account for all the apps, this would also make their job easier. I can't tell if apps get missed because of genuine accidents or just laziness (more than likely not the latter).

That could easily be resolved by people actively moderating it, no? Maybe implement a guide where if someone doesn't use the proper format/title or whatever, it gets denied prior to the meeting? Maybe something to consider later on?

People cannot even manage to post it in the right section 9 times out of 10 .
The amount of times i have to move a topic to the correct section...
This will even make it worse LOL.
Though i love the idea. but witht he current people not posting in the right section
This is also due to them not being used the way we have our forums setup
Our forums differ from almost every other forum you will ever visit . which also makes us unique

This is always the first post on any application tbh.
"Moved it to the correct section for you! Good luck!"
This would just confuse the shit out of people even more.

It's a good point, but as forum staff you're fairly familiar with the forum and where everything is. I can't really speak from experience here but surely it can't be that hard to see a topic in the wrong section and say, "Oh, an SSRP moderator application in the drama hole? This should be in the SSRP application section!" Then with a couple of clicks, it's sorted.

And Michael, I'm not sure where you're coming from, how does letting someone know their application was in the wrong section, but it's been sorted, confuse someone? Surely they would be able to learn from such a simple change; not that hard to grasp.

EDIT: I will add your concern to the potential issues in the OP, thanks for the feedback.

This is not needed, most of the applications get locked by the end of the week leaving only 1 / 2 pages of active applications which need to be reviewd.

I've had a think about the whole moderation side of things if these sub-sections were to be added.

I'm not sure how the usergroup system works on this specific forum but I generated this idea by thinking about a forum I used a lot in the past; which was powered by phpBB afaik.

Basically forum admins could access a page in the forum administration that would allow them to create and modify specific user groups. My thought process here would be to create specific groups (if this were to be implemented) for the appropriate servers. The groups could be named "SSRP Lead Team" and so on. They would only have permissions to lock and edit threads in their respective section.

In my eyes, this seems like a more efficient way to group people together for moderation purposes. I'll have this added to the OP later on.

I honestly don't see this being added. There is a custom title for apps (ex: [SSRP Mod] X's App) and it's there for a reason. If players don't do what they're told when applying then they should be aware that they might be missed, unless a forum staff realised it and fixed the title for them.

The titles are obviously a good way to identify what application is for which server. Saying that though, applications do get missed because of the general clutter of applications mixed together. When I say this, I mean that some applications get pushed back a page or two after applications for other servers get replied to and locked.

I believe that having these sub-sections would cut down on this event occurring.

I really like this idea but at the same time, I like how it is right now. They normally get missed out in meetings if people aren't using the correct prefix of what server and position they're applying for or posting it in the incorrect section.

I see how this COULD be nice just for the looks for it. But i know for a pure fact that this won't benefit in any way. Sometimes an app do get missed, everyone makes mistakes once in awhile. But as said before most the time if the app gets missed then it is because the person that made the app don't want to follow the template as told to. But even if the app gets missed 1 week due to whatever, it always gets reviewed the week after. So it's not that big of an issue

I appreciate the feedback. However, I evidently have a higher level of concern over missed applications than you. That could potentially be an entire week of experience for that player to get to grips with being staff. A lot can be done and learned in a week.
