Suggestion Title:
Hiding Topics
How would it benefit the server:
Basically, you could hide (for example) a application to first be reviewed by forum staff and friends before revealing it to the world. The moment they un-hide their topic, all replies to the topic get removed and everyone will be able to see the topic. This would allow for better interaction between users and staff and allow for better applications to be posted. It could also help with posts that currently require the use of the "hide" code on the forums, as such posts would be entirely invisible to most users and with this addition users wouldn't even be able to click on the post or know of its existence.
Overall it would ensure that users feel more secure and more welcome into the community.
Potential Issues/Exploits:
Users could be confused about what the button does, it could require more time from staff members than staffing in the section currently does.
Additional notes:
So, here's how it works. Users could click a box, like how I show here, to hide the topic.
You can only hide a topic when creating the topic. You cannot edit the post later to hide it, as this could be abused (someone could post a topic, people respond to it and all of a sudden the topic is gone because he decided to hide it).
Hidden topics are only visible to forum (section) staff and people that get the link to the topic. Nobody else will be able to acces it.
This is what a hidden topic (could) looks like to staff:
The moment a user checks the box for hiding the post again when editing it and submitting, the post will no longer be hidden. All responses to the application, from for example forum staff that helped the applicant, will be deleted.
All the users will be able to see is the final topic. This ensures that (once again, just an example of how this could be used) users will put out a good application before showing it to others.
That's it. Please show your thoughts and ideas in the comments - I appreciate all feedback on this!
