and I totally agree. It would require more effort than a standard vote but would yield better, fairer results. It isn't such a problem in meetings when the choice is yes or no, but sometimes you get more options, and then it might be sometimes better to host the vote on for example
www.demochoice.org instead of on strawpoll, since it can give you a fairer vote. For example, if you had to vote for a number 1, 2 or 3, you like 3 but 2 is more popular, which you kind of like you can just vote 3 as your first choice and 2 as your second. Problem solved. The downside to demochoice is that limiting the vote from getting leaked is hard, just like in strawpoll. If you really like, you can limit who can vote via e-mail, but that's leaking private information + it takes too long.
