Somthing for the moderators. (Well some) 8 years 7 months ago #194726

Okay so yesterday i invited a friend to Deathrun, he was new, and i was in the process of teaching him the map that we where playing and teach him basic rules, like what everyone should. So my friend Cyrex became a Death, he started running, to get a hold of the map etc, and a Moderator warned him for "avoiding death". Glad to say that KingOfSaiyans sorted this, so a big thank you to him.

But anyway, so as a friend, i hammered on at this mod, because it was a total false warning.
So naming no names, as i don't want to like shame this guy out.

Anyway, we continued, i questioned him. He was being very ignorant about it as i was asking him questions, i asked him via mic + Chat. So no way could he off missed them. I continued to ask him, he then finally giving me a reply, and it being pretty awful. He told me why he warned him. So i was like well i will get a SA (SuperAdmin) to remove it. End off.

But anyway enough off that, But i just want to say to the moderators, PLEASE FUCKING HELP PEOPLE.
You are not there to abuse you're powers and drop warnings left right a center. Okay, feel free to when people are rulebreaking and you have total proof.
But you're main job should be to HELP the players of ZARP. Some off you Moderators are just to damn power hungry.
I have seen no support coming from the moderators of Deathrun, with maybe the exception of 2-3. They will be listed below.
But when new players come in, and ASK FOR A MOD, and they need help, at-least help them. More support comes from the Chat and non staff members more than it does you guys.
In my current point of view, all mods (Again, with a exception of a few) just want to have the warning power.
Instead of slapping a warning of them! OFFER THEM SUPPORT! Give them some tips, not a warning, its how you're community gets hated.
Lastly, i want to say when you have done something wrong, please admit to it and don't be ignorant when someone is trying to ask you questions or needs a little help.

As i said, i want to say a awesome thank you to these dudes listed below. I have had full on support and help from these below.

Rilder
EchoKappa
Hoblit

Also a thank you to Stratiic. This guy is awesome, me and him had a huge talk about this.

If the mod did it without warning your friend verbally he shouldn't have done that but deaths shouldn't run around all the round too you can have a tour like going to the end and coming back but you shouldn't do it so many times.

Nico, he was new. Not one person goes into a server and understands every rule 100%.
And going back to the point i made, he wanted to get used the the map, and see what it was like.

Just saying, but when I first joined my first Deathrun server (Zarp), I didn't know nothing.
I didn't go running through the map; I just played my part as being a Death.

I activated the traps when it was needed and over time I memorized all maps until new maps came in. Rinse and repeat.
There is the issue where I see nowadays where staff drastically warn others for death avoiding.

Back in my day...
That didn't happen.

TTT is better.

I agree Walrus, i played my part as deaths. But you have to understand that not everyone is the same, people are different and play games in a different way. We are not all you.

First thing you're shown when you join the server are the rules, i just don't see why wouldn't you bother to read them, if he didn't then that's his problem.

Now let me ask you. When you join servers, Do you read EVERY rule?
And remember them 100%?

And if you say yes, i call bullshit. I don't know one person who does that, and i know over 40+ people who play GMOD a lot.
Most people pick up on the rules and develop them over there course of playtime.

If you're talking about TTT and Deathrun, there's not many rules and you can understand them in a jiffy.
SSRP on the otherwise, as you've said:
Most people pick up on the rules and develop them over there course of playtime.
Is correctly quoted.

Deathrun and TTT rules are very fit in the simplicity category.

All you need to know in Deathrun is not to death avoid, trap spam, ghost, trap steal and the general rules; notice how the general rules are called general rules.

All you need to know in TTT is not to meta game, RDM and the general rules.

Then it all comes down to using your common sense.
Such as text spamming and microphone spamming and of course not to be disrespectful and racism.
...And nudity sprays and whatnot.

All you need to know in SSRP is copy all the rules down.
As you can see that the rules that I've copied, SSRP is a very advanced gamemode by which PERP is even a more advanced gamemode.

Thank you for your time.

I'm sorry, but looking around the map isn't "death avoiding". It's called trying to learn the map to help your team do better in future rounds. They don't specifically state not to do this, so a new player wouldn't understand.

I am walrus,

Considering it is in a Deathrun Forum section....

And yes but you know, not everyone is as bright as Einstein. Not saying my friend is at all stupid, but some people are not. And people have to appreciate and accept that.

And Nerdlord. My exact point, atleast someone agrees with me.

No,
He took run around the map dude. Like a 30 second preview of the map so he could see what it was like.

So I think for once. I actually agree with Walrus on this one. Deathrun has became far to strict.
Like warning for pointbegging when said person has only asked for points once.
Or warning a death for running around for 10 seconds.

People have different ways of learning maps. I learn maps the same way as your friend does. If I'm death straight away I take a quick run to the end and back looking at the traps as I pass.

Even though this post wasn't needed as it is intended to put the mods to shame. And Stratiic's is much more detailed and explained better. I do thank you for an honest opinion and finally a post from a non staff member who has decided that they are fed up of the mods giving out warns like it's nothing. It ruins the experience for players. It ruined my experience when I got warned for reactivation (When I had no idea it was used or not).

In all seriously. CHILL ON THE WARNINGS

Totally agree with King, chill on the warnings.
You know, i was talking to some dudes last night who played the server, and got warnings for pathetic reasons, and one being Point Begging, its like no.
This dude + someone else decided there not playing the server, so you know if you are the type of MOD that warns for no reasons, stop. its effecting the community ffs. The whole reason you are in that position is to provide support to the server, give a help in hand and be there to stop rule-breakers. You're job isn't to power horde.

Sorry for bashing on so much about it, but the fact that its downgrading a pretty awesome community, and they can just get away with it, really pissed me off.

My final say in this comment is that i'm speaking for half of the server, most people don't post this type of stuff, probably because they think they will get banned. But yeah i think something needs to be done, and cracked down on it.

If you give a kid mod he'll warn for rulebreaks.

He won't consider context, nor other factor aside from the rule break.
