Over the past week or two myself and a few other lead team members have been getting a few reports that admins appear to be spectating other members of the staff team. I want to give you guys who are doing this and to future admins a reminder that this isn't something they should be doing. Just because you have access to this command doesn't mean you should be using it to catch other staff members "breaking rules". Admins are given this power so they can further help themselves catch and deal with rulebreakers. If you truly feel that a staff member is breaking rules or abusing then you should bring the matter up with a lead team member so they can deal with the problem effectively. As the lead team, we are the ones who should be spectating the staff members to be sure they are doing their job correctly and not doing things they shouldn't be. Again, if you have an issue with another staff member who you feel may be breaking rules or abusing their power you should bring it to a lead team member for them to deal with. Admins lack the tools to deal with these kinds of things and can usually end up making situations worse just by simply spectating each other. Thank you for your time. If this is the case then Xnator would not have been caught admin abusing, and still getting destroyed by a bald gun dealer. He would have gotten a warning at best, but even that is unlikely because a lead team member would not have seen it with his own eyes. Unless you're abusing on a daily basis you're likely to get away with it because no admins can record & spectate you now? Removing this feature is a dumb idea itself; pressuring admins to follow rules is a good fucking habit that makes people aware that they can't abuse because someone without a life IRL will catch them. Of course, if you accidentally job abuse or whatever it shouldn't be seen as a big deal anyways. I get that the player count is low but let's not start doing whatever sounds the better, consider implementing what works? Jesus christ... |

Personally I don’t mind staff spectating other staff on the grounds they suspect they’re abusing or have caught them in the act and report it to the lead team. Honestly it would be unfair to reprimand a whistleblower for ultimately catching someone who’s being silly with their powers. Saying that I’m not too bothered about staff spectating other staff cause generally if you have nothing to hide then why care, I guess? |

Honestly it would be unfair to reprimand a whistleblower for ultimately catching someone who’s being silly with their powers. Saying that I’m not too bothered about staff spectating other staff cause generally if you have nothing to hide then why care, I guess? i mean yeah dont let admins use it The spectate tool is a valuable asset for admins. Being able to quickly watch a (possible) rulebreaker without him noticing you is very effective. Removing this feature would drastically decrease the efficiency of the staff team. We should instead put our energy into preventing the misuse of this tool. Currently, I see two problems with this tool. The first problem is, that some staff members just don't know that spectating other staff members is strictly forbidden. Instead of publicly calling them out or making up harsher punishments, we should overall improve the staff training process to ensure that this doesen't happen by "accident". As I've participated in a lot of training sessions lately, I already see that this is improving. The lead team is way better at pointing this out now than back when I got trained a few months ago. The second problem is the lack of logging. Currently, only HA+ can see log entries for the spectate command. This should at least be opened up to SA or even Admins. Of course, Admins would only be able to see spectate logs of other admins, same for SA's. As it is right now, admins can basically spectate anybody, when there's not HA+ online, so it's easy to get away with it. The spectate command needs to be overhauled. Both in it's technical implementation and in a management perspective. The points I've brought up were just ideas, feel free to work on them if you don't like some aspects, but removing the spectate tool for admins is not the right way. Thanks for reading! |
