I can understand peoples saying " suits ruined a fair bit of rp potential this server had ".
But straight up saying " It was better back in 2014-2015 " is retarded Im sorry. Had the server not evolved Im quite sure it would be way worse than now in term of popularity because everyone would've been bored of yet another darkrp server where there's no goal to reach but make more and more money.
Suits and other expensive items brought a meaning to being rich. Because everyone wants that super op suit or that over-destructive explosive weapon. Everyone wants to stand at the top and be " that cool guy in a suit ".
The real problem of this server is the difficulty for new players to actualy earn money and that's what makes them go away. When you start your only choice is basicaly to grow mushroom/weed or mine steel to sell to make some garbage money. And basing takes so much time, effort and a decent ammount of money to even begin with that it's just not worth it for most players. I mean when there's no special 3x boosted printers or x5 suits, basing normaly takes up to 3-4 hours before you even make back the money you spent on the special printers. And that's more than enough time to be raided 100 times over considering there are constantly peoples connecting to S1/S2/S3 with scan master and nano/hyper to raid whoever might be basing.
This leads to a stagnant player base with no newcomers staying inducing a lack of competition and a general boring feeling when you join any of the servers because litteraly half of the players on S1 just stand idle at spawn or just sell shit in their shop. Which I will never understand because some peoples actualy never even base/raid/nuke but still gather billions that are just gonna sit in their bank account.
Please, if you were a player in 2014 you would understand why everyone says it.
Sure, servers need maintaining and something needs to be introduced to keep a flow of entertainment going. However, for a lot of people, just simply having that rivalry against other gangs and making bits of cash was enough to keep them playing.
When players weren't drowning in money, trying to make as much as possible was the goal for a lot of people. If you ask what the difference is between earning 100m back then and earning 10b nowadays is that there was always so much more you could make. Same with the 10b but when does it stop? 999b? Even so, special weapons like orbs were worth 20m. Money was a lot harder to make back then, which extends the time that players are on in which they're grinding.
Rich coming from me but, to maintain a healthy server I think a communication should be established with the players to hear their ideas and concerns. Something like a community liaison in which takes place on the teamspeak every so often. Understandably, bringing out updates, surprises and all that jazz is nice but when these updates are only created from one perspective which is the owners, the players have no choice but to stick with it even if it's something we don't like. Instead, the owners can focus on what the players want to see not what they want.
I have an example to show how things have got out of hand. There is a suggestion which is to buff the VIP printers to double their output. Back in 2014 just having nuke printers down meant business. You didn't have money to just waste putting them down, once you put it down you were there for hours.
Here we are, looking at suggestions to double their output JUST to keep up with the economy.
Not to sound disrespectful.
